Social Innovation Based Entrepreneurship For Rural Women Of Haryana

This project of Social Innovation for Women Entrepreneurship is a joint initiative of IIT Delhi and UNDP in partnership with Humana, aiming to provide livelihood to women in different districts of Haryana, based on their skills, knowledge, available resources and market accessibility. It began on 2 nd January 2018 with the setting up of the ‘Social Innovation Lab’ at IIT Delhi, under the Department of Design.

Ethnographic research in rural parts of Haryana was conducted for four months. Our goal was to understand their current living and working scenarios. Also, identify skills and knowledge support that can help women to become an entrepreneur. The study included conducting one-to-one and focus group interviews with over 200 women across 18 villages. Design students, research scholars, and faculty members visited villages to understand daily activities, social and cultural problems faced, their outlook towards working and earning independently, etc. through DILO (Day in life of the) method. The study was supported by HUMANA Foundation that helped us in identifying and connecting with people.
